Underwear

Boxers or briefs?

My boys always wore briefs -- maybe because my brothers always did or because their dad did. Somehow, briefs just seemed right.

But lately, they've become aware of boxers and wanted to try them out. Without going into too much detail, let's just say they're all sporting boxers right now (except Boy #4, who is STILL wearing diapers) and that Boy #3 is very, very proud.

What do you think? Is there a certain age when most boys make the transition from boxers to briefs? From what I understand, boxers on little boys can be a messy ordeal. A friend's son recently, uh, dumped all over the front of her van. Not his fault, really. He was wearing boxers and when he lost control, the boxers didn't offer much in the way of support.

Today, let's take a break the big questions -- and solve the boxers vs. briefs dilemma instead.

  1. Since the day he was potty trained, my boy has always worn Hanes Boxer Briefs - best of both worlds. And just like Dad wears.

  5. Al my boys changed to boxers around their early teens. It's no longer cool to wear briefs and when they swim, they have boxers under their trunks.

  6. I have one of each at my house. My 15-year old prefers classic briefs, and my 11-year old (always the free-spirited one!) has worn boxers for many years. To each his own!

  7. Ha! The story even makes me laugh, and I lived through it! And yet, we still wear the boxers.

  8. My older grandsons (6 & 9) wear boxer briefs....I remember being surprised when I first saw them in those, a sort of aw, they're growing up feeling. The 4 yr old still wears briefs. I see lots of boxers showing above the "waist" of the older boys sporting the saggy, baggy pant style.

  9. You know, part of me thinks, "Why are there so manh *options* for boys?" Then I remembered that female under comes in full butt, boy brief, bikini, string bikini, thong....

Boy, am I glad I have boys!

  10. My sons ages 8 and 10 both wear briefs. Always have done. My 10yo tried boxers but didn't like the extra material down his legs so we put him back in briefs. My 8yo couldn't care less but I actually prefer my boys wearing briefs.. More support and nothing will 'poke' out!

  11. Both my boys 10 and 15 wear briefs. The eldest wanted to change to boxers but switched back after only a day as they rode up on him and he said it felt like just wearing a pair of shorts under his trousers. My youngest still just likes the cartoon options on briefs, currently into Ben 10, LOL Bless him!

  12. i started out wearing briefs at age 4, then switched to boxers in 2nd grade. i have worn them ever since. although i think most boys start wearing them 3-5grade, i started early. i think they are more comfortable. although i dont understand why people sag.

  13. My son is 9 and wears pants (briefs). Ive never bought him anything else, ive seen the boxer designs in the shops but would rather he wore pants as boxers look just like shorts to me and would imagine there uncomfortable under trousers. Besides hes never asked to wear anything else. Hes not bothered.

  14. I hope you had your question answered (after 3 years!) I wore boxers as early as i could remember, couldn't stand the fit of briefs. My son, now 10, wore boxers since he was 6ish, but now wants to wear the same seamless microfiber boxer-briefs (similar to 'boyshorts' for women) that I wear however the dont sell them ANYWHERE in the USA. couldn't even find them online! closest thing is compression shorts but those go nearly to the knee.
