Learning Challenges

Yesterday I wrote about twice exceptional children, children who are simultaneously gifted and learning disabled.

I'd like to write more about learning challenges and education, but first I'd like to hear from you. What learning challenges have your son(s) faced? What would you like to learn more about?

  1. That's a hard question to answer as everyday there are new challenges.

My son doesn't have a learning disability, but his writing skills don't match his other verbal skills. That has been a source of frustration, but he's getting better all the time.

Now, the issues that concern me have more to do with emotions and balance. My son is often highly-intense,easily frustrated, and negative.

  2. I am concerned about labels, I am concerned about severely restrictive behavior requirements for boys in classrooms, I am concerned about grade level expectations which are enforced without any true understanding of when children are actually ready to acquire the skills being covered, I am concerned how the message "you're behind" affects children when given as early as first grade, I am concerned about the effect of grading and testing repeatedly. Oh, Jenny, I will stop now! 2E or not 2E.......
